Charlestowne Landing – Jane Hill




In 1740 Eliza and her sister sailed cross the Atlantic to join Eliza’s husband who had inherited his plantation in South Carolina.
The lives of these early settlers in the Southern States of America were dependent on cotton, tobacco and slavery. They lived in a country where families were divided by the fight for Independence from the British Crown and country. The subsequent War of Independence severely damaged the cotton trade and led to the eventual American Civil War.
